David Watson Joined Baker & McKenzie In Sydney

David Watson has joined Baker & McKenzie in Sydney as a member in the firm’s corporate markets practice. Watson was formerly with Mars as regional general counsel, North America, and has worked in London, Dubai, New York and Washington, in addition to Sydney. Prior to joining Mars, he was a corporate partner at Minter Ellison, Sydney. “Having worked internationally, both in private practice and in house at the most senior levels, David brings a wealth of M&A and FMCG industry experience. We are very excited that he is joining us,” said Chris Freeland, the firm’s national managing partner. In his time at Mars, Watson’s role as general counsel included advising the most senior executives on M&A and joint venture transactions, crisis management, product recalls and food law and policy.


Blake Dawson has appointed Liza Carver as a partner of the firm’s national competition and consumer protection practice, based in Sydney. Carver has joined the firm from Gilbert & Tobin. Carver has particular expertise in merger clearance and in the energy and telecommunications sectors. She is the third partner Blake Dawson has appointed to its national CCP practice area in recent months; Jane Ellis and Ross Zaurrini were promoted to partnership at the beginning of July.
