Spruson & Ferguson Has Appointed Ken Hamilton As Principal

Issued: August 01 2011

Spruson & Ferguson has appointed Ken Hamilton as principal in the firm’s trademarks team. Hamilton has more than 25 years of experience working in intellectual property. In the early 1990s, he worked as an in-house patent attorney for the Commonwealth Scientific & Industrial Research Organisation. Since returning to private practice in 1994, he has specialized in providing advice relating to trademarks, with extensive experience with the registration and enforcement of trademarks in Australia and overseas. Hamilton joined from Phillips Ormonde Fitzpatrick.

DLA Piper has named David Richardson to its intellectual property and technology team in Brisbane. Richardson joined the firm as partner from Dibbs Barker in Brisbane. Richardson has experience advising on all areas of IP and IT law including technology development, IP protection and exploitation, research collaboration, e-commerce, joint ventures, licensing, distribution arrangements, franchising and other commercial procurement and supply arrangements.

Squire, Sanders & Dempsey is finalizing talks with the majority of the partners from the Western Australia firm that has operated under the Minter Ellison brand for more than two decades. Squire Sanders plans to expand into Australia and strengthen its presence in Asia Pacific by establishing a strong position in Western Australia. The enhanced practice is expected to enable the combined firm to strengthen relationships with clients in Japan and China, where Squire Sanders has offices, and with clients and opportunities in Africa, and the rest of Southeast Asia. The Minter Ellison partnership will reportedly open its own office in Perth in October, which will include some partners from the current Minter Ellison Perth office.
