The State Intellectual Property Office of China (SIPO) has adopted a new official English name, effective August 28, 2018, in the form of the China National Intellectual Property Administration, using the acronym CNIPA, which the organization says should be pronounced by spelling out each letter. In March 2018, a restructuring expanded the CNIPA’s original functions and roles to include administering trademarks as well as geographical indications of the country.
