Hong Kong, Korea Sign Customs Cooperation Agreement

Issued: May 01 2011

Richard Yuen, the commissioner of Hong Kong Customs and Excise, and Yoon Young-sun, commissioner of the Korea Customs Services, have recently pledged closer co-operation between the two jurisdictions at the 29th Customs Co-operation Conference.

Both Customs administrations agreed to continue with the prompt exchange of intelligence to combat transnational customs offences, including drug trafficking, cigarette smuggling and intellectual property rights infringements, as well as to enhance co-operation on financial investigation issues, a statement said.

"At [the] conference, we had a fruitful exchange of views on various topics of mutual concern,” said Yuen. “In the days ahead we will continue to sustain our close working relationship and will develop initiatives to foster an even more strategic partnership to meet forthcoming challenges.”
