Jaguar Plans Action Over Unauthorised Imitation
Issued: December 01 2014Car maker Jaguar Land Rover is planning to take action against a Chinese rival after it displayed an alleged imitation of one of its models.
The dispute centres on the LandWind X7 SUV manufactured by LandWind, a company set up by Chang’an Automobile Group and Jiangling Motors Corporation in 2004.
Jaguar said it is an unauthorised imitation of its Range Rover Evoque.
The car was first revealed to the public at the 12th China International Automobile Exhibition held in Guangzhou, which ran from November 21 to 29.
Ralf Speth, chief executive of Jaguar, told automobile news publication Autocar that he will look into taking action against LandWind.
He said: “The fact that this kind of copying is ongoing in China is very disappointing. The simple principle is that it is not something that should happen; the IP is owned by Jaguar Land Rover and if you break that IP then you are in breach of international regulations that apply around the world."
“I will talk to our officials and I will talk to our partners at Chery [a Jaguar Land Rover subsidiary] to find a way around this situation.” he added.
