China IP Index 2014 Edition released

Issued: November 20 2014

China IP Index 2014 Edition, which has been the sixth annual index report since 2009, was recently released by the index workgroup in Beijing, according to CNIPR.

The workgroup joined by excellent experts from economy, intellectual property and law industries is seeking to quantify intellectual property indicators and reveal the correlation between intellectual property protection and economic development. The index is featured with accurate and authority figures as well as a scientific index system, which attracts a wide range of public attention.

The index notes that top five provinces and municipalities in terms of comprehensive intellectual property strength are Beijing, Jiangsu, Shanghai, Guangdong and Zhejiang, with Beijing ranking the first place for several consecutive years. Tianjin, Shangdong, Liaoning, Fujian and Chongqing are also named in the top ten list.

There is still a huge gap among different regions featuring with strong power in east areas and low ability in west areas. For example, among top ten pioneers, only Chongqing locates in western areas, while the last ten “foot-draggers” are all in middle and western areas. Besides, it is noted that provinces alongside Yangzi River perform better among their middle and western peers with Sichuan, Chongqing, Hubei, Hunan and Anhui equipped with rather strong intellectual property strength.
