Vietnam Elected to WIPO Programme and Budget Committee

Issued: October 01 2013

Vietnam has been elected to WIPO’s Programme and Budget Committee for the first time since it joined the organization in 1976.

Vietnam was elected to the Programme and Budget Committee of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) at the organization’s 51st general assembly in Switzerland. Vietnam, which joined the organization in 1976, was elected to its first term on the committee, and will serve for the 2013-2015 term.

Ta Quang Minh, director general of the National Office of Intellectual Property of Vietnam, said that Vietnam had actively participated in the WIPO development programme’s projects, raising its profile in the community since becoming its member.

He introduced two projects that are underway with WIPO’s support and assistance at the assembly. One is developing a branding strategy to promote local specialities and to boost their exports. The other is establishing Technology and Innovation Support Centre, an IP rights support centre, with local database accessible on technology information.

WIPO has provided assistance to improve the capacity of Vietnam’s intellectual property system every year, he said.
