Singapore Signs IP MOU with Brazil
Issued: May 13 2013The Intellectual Property Office of Singapore (IPOS) and Brazil’s National Industrial Property Institute (NIPI) signed a Memorandum of Understanding that provides an umbrella framework for collaboration between the two countries to strengthen IP cooperation over the next five years. The MOU encourages the two countries to increase the exchange of information, best practices and knowledge by joining IP-related events to help resolve patent registrations and other issues expeditiously.
“This agreement underscores the importance of building collaborative links between Brazil and Singapore, as well as the new ways both regions are looking at to help citizens and businesses protect their intellectual property,” said Jorge Avila, president of INPI.
“The signing of this MOU marks a new beginning in the bilateral relationship between the two IP offices. When implemented, it will deliver faster and more efficient IP services to the business communities of both countries. Singapore business owners will benefit from the network of South American markets, and have more direct access to business opportunities in Brazil,” said Tan Yih San, IPOS’ chief executive.
The implementation of the activities under the MOU builds on prior efforts undertaken by Singapore to engage its Latin American counterparts, and is envisaged to be part of the broader efforts to create potential trade opportunities and extend business reach of its markets.
