The LAW Partnership Launches Operations In Kuala Lumpur January 1, 2019

The LAW Partnership launched operations in Kuala Lumpur on January 1, 2019. The firm is led by partners Suaran Singh Sidhu, Brian Law and Cheah Chiew Lan, along with a team of associates and business support staff. LAW Partnership is the new relationship firm of the global firm Eversheds Sutherland and the Singapore firm of Eversheds Harry Elias.


Singh Sidhu has extensive experience in all aspects of IP matters, information technology law, commercial law and personal data protection law. In addition, he regularly advices on legal matters in the fields of entertainment, media and communications. He has acted in several landmark cases on IP laws in Malaysia and is also experienced in obtaining ex-parte injunctions such as Anton Piller Orders, injunctions and search orders. He is actively involved in projects relating to the internet and e-commerce, such as deep-linking, webhosting and liability of publishers, online banking/payment, mobile banking/ wallets and provision of content.

 

Law, who is also head of the Eversheds Harry Elias IP group in Asia, is experienced in advising on all aspects of IP across Southeast Asia from commercial advisory and prosecution of trademarks, patents and designs, to complex IP litigation and enforcement matters. He has secured several landmark decisions involving trademark dispute cases in Malaysia and has represented clients in highly contentious patent and copyright infringement suits. He is responsible for the success of several high profile and complex IP raids across the region.


Cheah has more than 18 years of experience in IP. She assists clients in creating, protecting, commercializing and enforcing various types of IP including trademark, design, domain name, geographical indication and copyright. She also advises on transactional IP work such as licensing, franchising, regulatory advice for food, drug and labeling laws as well as data protection and privacy issues. She has advised clients from a diverse range of sectors including automotive, pharmaceutical, consumer products, food and beverage, luxury products, fashion and retail.
