Patent Applications Soar
Issued: March 01 2009According to data released on China’s State Intellectual Property Office (SIPO) website, SIPO received 828,328 patent applications in 2008, an increase of 19.4% over 2007 applications.
Of the total applications, 289,838 were for design patents and 225,586 were for utility model patents, both of which have 10-year life spans. Twenty-year invention patent applications totaled 289,838.
SIPO reported that 717,144 of the applications were from domestic sources and that 111,184 came from other countries.
