Tomohiko Makino Has Joined Bingham McCutchen

Issued: May 01 2009

Intellectual property litigation lawyer Tomohiko Makino has joined Bingham McCutchen as a partner in the firm’s Tokyo office. Makino joins the firm from the Fuji Law Patent Office in Tokyo, where he was a partner.

He has litigated infringement, invalidation and appellate cases for Japanese corporations and has handled general Japanese licensing, corporate and contract matters, and strategic intellectual property planning.

Makino says Bingham will allow him to broaden his experience on crossborder cases. “Bingham’s intellectual property practice will help me advise clients in Japan, but I also look forward to working with our lawyers in the United States to serve the corporations who rely on intellectual property to compete and thrive in an increasingly global marketplace,” he said.

Bingham’s Tokyo IP litigators include partner and former judge Harumi Kojo, a well-known intellectual property lawyer who previously served on the Tokyo High Court, and partner Yoshinori Horigome, who advises on matters that include patent, copyright, trademark and unfair competition law in industries such as trading firms, computer software, communications, chemicals and construction companies.
